Chromebooks in India

While Chromebooks are rising in US and other ‘western’ markets, it is yet to rock the India. HP, Samsung, Acer and Asus have already released their ChromeOS devices here, but seems that Indian users are still in love with Windows. I believe that the Chromebooks would start gaining popularity in developing countries like India with the increase in usage of cloud-based services. And for that, faster, reliable and cheaper internet connectivity is a must. Although, almost all large Indian cities now have 3G coverage, using 3G is quite expensive.

If you are planning to buy a laptop, I would definitely recommend you to explore Chromebooks. Chromebooks are light-weight, crap-free, power-efficient and modern computing device. I’ve been using my HP Chromebook 14 for more than a year now, and hardly turn on my Windows desktop.

Here are the ChromeOS devices available on Flipkart:

  • HP Chromebook 14: It is the best option if you are planning to use Chromebook as your primary computer. Key specification: Large screen, longer battery life, Celeron processor, 4GB RAM, 16GB SSD.
  • HP Chromebook 14 and Chromebook 11 having NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor. These devices are listed as coming soon.
  • Acer C270: The best selling ChromeOS laptop. Available for just Rs 19k.
  • Samsung XE303C12: Old and low configuration model. No reason to pick it.
  • LG Chromebase: The All-in-One ChromeOS computer is available for around Rs 27, 700.

Apart from these devices, some other vendors have announced their Chrome OS devices in India, like the Asus Chromebox, but I’m not sure about their availability. You can also search and Amazon for other Chromebook models.

(PS: I’m planning to buy Core i7 model of Asus Chromebox soon.)
