DuckDuckGo Unreachable For Some Users in India, Apparently Blocked by ISPs

DuckDuckGo users in India are currently facing problems in connecting to the site, and it looks like that the site has been blocked by ISPs.

The Indian government recently banned 59 apps linked with Chinese companies including popular ones like TikTok, UC Browser, Cam Scanner etc. Authorities have also directed ISPs to block access to these apps and their domains. It looks like that the current DuckDuckGo outage for some users is related to this ban, as many users have shared screenshots on social media, where a warning message by ISPs is shown.

Although, we found that and its Android browser application is working as expected with no issues, at least on Jio and Airtel networks in Delhi NCR region.

DuckDuckGo has noticed this issue, and informed users on Twitter, “We’ve received many reports our search engine is unreachable by much of India right now and have confirmed it is not due to us. We’re actively talking to Internet providers to get to the bottom of it ASAP. Thank you for your patience.”

Users facing this outage can switch their DNS provider to Google’s Public DNS or Cloudflare’s Public DNS, or may use any reliable VPN application.
