How To Use Windows 10 Timeline

Windows 10 Timeline was recently recently introduced by Microsoft in the Windows 10. The timeline feature allows users to see their activities and recently used applications. This chronological activity log can be synchronized over other connected computers, and users can resume their work right from the timeline itself.

How to use Windows 10 Timeline

To start enjoying the Windows 10 timeline feature on your computer make sure you have the updated version of Windows 10 (April 2018 Fall Creators update or later). Now, open Windows Settings and search for Activity History (or, visit Privacy > Activity history). On the Activity History page, you need to enable the option “Let Windows collect my activities from this PC” as shown the following screenshot:

Optionally, you can also enable the option “Let Windows sync my activities from this PC to the cloud”, which requires you to connect your Microsoft account. This would sync your timeline activities over other connected computers.

Now that you you enabled timeline feature on your Windows 10 installation, it’s the time to access the timeline and see your activity log on the computer. To access the timeline, you need to enable the Task View button on the Windows taskbar.


Once Task View button is available on the taskbar, just click on it to access your Windows 10 timeline. You can instantly switch to any application shown in the timeline.


The Windows 10 timeline feature shows individual items of your browsing history with Microsoft’s Edge browser, which makes it easier to open any previously visited web page right from the timeline. And if a user has enabled timeline sync, he can access and open such items from another connected computers. Apart from the Edge browser, several other applications like the built-in File Explorer, Maps etc. also have support for timeline to show individual entry of particular user activity.
